Talk on Marine Conservation Awareness

An awareness programme on Marine conservation and protection  was organised by the Skill  workshop committee for the students of standard XI Science on the 31st of January 2026 at 12.30 p.m . The session was conducted  by Mr. Venkatesh Charloo, the founder trustee of Coastal Impact. He spoke about Marine biodiversity and the impacts the environment in the present days is having on the coasts and marine life .

The programme highlighted major threats to oceans including climate change, pollution, oil spills and overfishing. Topics like rising ocean temperature and ocean acidification caused by absorption of atmospheric CO₂ were also discussed.

The first speaker Ms. Nadia provided information  about the different forms of water on Earth. The second speaker Ms. Nidhi  educated the students about coral reef biodiversity ,stratergies  to conserve  marine biodiversity in Goa. She also shed some light on the social, economic and environmental importance of oceans.

Special emphasis was given to plastic pollution, its origin in 1907, and its harmful effects on marine life. Students were encouraged to avoid single-use plastic, recycle waste, and use reusable and sustainable products.

The session was informative and helped to raise awareness about the need to protect and conserve the oceans. The light humour used by the speakers made the session fun and memorable. The  session was indeed a very interesting and engaging one.
