Report on Eye Screening Camp The Skill Workshop and Health Awareness Committee of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa, organized an Eye Screening Camp on 5th April 2025. The screening camp was sponsored by Lens and Spexs Opticals Pvt. Ltd. and services were offered free of charge to all staff members.
The camp began at 9:00 a.m. at the Xavetaria, where a team of expert optometrists conducted vision and refraction tests. The team included:
- Optometrist: Ms. Aishwarya Malwankar
- Salesperson:Mr. Pandurang Nagvekar
- Marketing Representative:Mr. Aloysius Dias
The team was warmly received with a round of applause. The event’s compere, Ms. Helosia Alphonso, began the program by quoting a proverb, "The eyes are the windows to the soul," adding, "Eyes are certainly windows to our health." She highlighted the importance of the eyes as a vital organ, allowing us to appreciate the world around us, aiding in memory, communication, and focus.
Ms. Alphonso then invited the school’s Principal, Ms. Victoria D’Souza, to present a potted plant to Ms. Aishwarya Malwankar. The Vice Principal of the General Stream, Rev. Fr. Agnelo Fernandes, presented a plant to Mr. Pandurang Nagvekar, while PTA member Mr. Anthony gifted a plant to Mr. Aloysius Dias in appreciation of their contribution.
Following this, Principal Ms. Victoria D’Souza addressed the gathering, welcoming the team from Lens and Spex Opticals Pvt. Ltd. She expressed gratitude for their visit, noting that the camp would be of great benefit to the staff members. She also pointed out that previous health camps had revealed that some staff members neglect their health due to a lack of regular checkups.
Mr. Aloysius Dias shared his thoughts with the audience, acknowledging that, as educators, many of us tend to overlook our health due to time constraints. He emphasized the importance of caring for our eyes, one of the most crucial organs of the body, and encouraged everyone to make regular eye checkups a priority to ensure good eye health.
In total, 67 staff and PTA members participated in the eye screening camp, benefiting from the opportunity to have their eyes tested and learn about their eye health status
