Report on the Session on Career choices in Merchant Navy

The Workshop Committee organised an Awareness and Motivational Session on Career choices in Merchant Navy for the students of Std XI and XII Science on 24th March 2026 from 9:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m in the St. Joseph Vaz Auditorium. The Session was conducted by the team from The Goa Maritime Officers Association, Margao. The team comprised of Chief Engineer Clive D’Costa, Chief Engineer Mahesh Ramnath Shetkar, 2nd Engineer Edwin Cruz D’Costa, 2nd Engineer Sanjay Velusker, 3rd Engineer Heston Dias and Junior Engineer Avito Lorenco.

Chief Engineer Clive D’Costa briefed the students on the Officer and Engineer roles in the Merchant Navy. He informed the students the different ranks in the Merchant Navy that include Deck Officers, responsible for navigation, cargo operations, and ship safety,  Engineering Officers, who oversee the ship's machinery, propulsion, and engineering systems and are responsible for the  overall operation and maintenance. The Captain is in charge of the overall management of the ship. He also highlighted the Eligibility Criteria for entering into the course- 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and 50% requirement in the English subject.  The session was very insightful, informative and enlightening.
